Are You A Good Candidate For Invisalign?

Are You A Good Candidate For Invisalign?

In the off chance that you don’t own a television or a radio, you don’t have any connection to the Internet, and you never look at a newspaper, this is an election year.

We aren’t going to pick sides in this blog, but we do know we can count on a few things from politicians. Each one will try to convince us that he or she is the best candidate. We will hear a lot of promises, most of which won’t be kept.

Instead, why not consider a choice that can help most people — that is most people who want to have straight teeth? Rather than looking for someone else to make your life better, find if you are a good candidate for Invisalign.

The best way to do that is to visit our dentist office if you live in or near West Chester, PA. By scheduling a consultation with K.C. Sykora, DDS, you can find out if Invisalign can create the straight smile you wish that you had.

What Can Invisalign Do?

In truth, many — possibly most — people who are seeking orthodontic treatment will be good candidates for Invisalign. This system can be used to correct many of the same issues that patients have previously fixed by wearing braces.

To give you a better idea what Invisalign can do, here are some of the issues that these “clear braces” have corrected:

  • Crooked teeth
  • Teeth with gaps between them
  • Crowded teeth
  • Open bites
  • Crossbites
  • Overbites
  • Underbites

We suspect you probably saw one or more of the things you want to change on that list if you are considering having your teeth straightened.

Invisalign is great for patients with mild to moderate alignment problems. If we don’t think Invisalign will work for you, we will let you know. There’s no reason for you to start a treatment that isn’t going to give you the results that you want.

The good new is that Invisalign does work for most people.

Who Are Good Candidates?

We can’t identify every possible person who may be a good candidate for Invisalign. So, we will use three examples of patients who would benefit from Invisalign treatment.

◼︎ The Recent College Graduate

This patient has been out of school for a few years. She has a good understanding of how things work at the office, and she is ready to start moving up the corporate ladder.

The only thing holding him or her back is the gap in the front of their teeth a slight overbite. She knows that moving up in the company will involve more face-to-face meeting with clients and potential customer. This rising star doesn’t want her teeth to become a distraction. Plus, she worries that her co-workers won’t take her as seriously if she reminds them of a teenager by getting braces.

With Invisalign, she can wear clear, plastic aligners instead. The aligners are hardly noticeable, which may help her feel more comfortable pursuing her career goals while her treatment is underway.

◼︎ The Shy Teenager

This young man has been self-conscious about his crooked teeth ever since his permanent teeth erupted. Both his parents told them about their experiences with braces, and he has anxiously anticipated the day when he would have to start wearing them, too.

The thought of wearing brackets and wires is making him anxious. The stories he’s heard from his friends make him want to avoid them completely. And he really doesn’t want to give up his favorite foods just to fix his teeth.

With Invisalign aligners, he won’t have to give up anything. He will need to wear the aligners for 22 hours per day. He can use those other two hours to remove the aligners during meals (so he can eat what he likes) and to brush and floss his teeth.

He also likes that the transparent aligners won’t draw attention to his teeth the way metal brackets and wires would.

◼︎ The Relapse Victim

This patient wore braces but didn’t follow through with the treatment by wearing a retainer. Now, his teeth are starting to move in the wrong direction. They are drifting back to their original crooked positions.

There’s no way he is going to wear braces again. Instead, he can use Invisalign to gently push his teeth back into their straight position … and he will definitely wear his retainer this time.
